According to a report by Al Jazeera, the 28-year-old athlete surpassed the prior global best of 14.72 seconds, which was established by Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson earlier this year in Florida.
Following his victory, an energetic Lyles expressed complete confidence to local broadcasters, celebrating alongside runner-up Sinesipho Dambile of South Africa and Australian teenage talent Gout Gout.
Dominant track displays across multiple disciplines
The international athletics meet featured several other noteworthy performances, including a highly competitive women’s 800-meter race won by Switzerland’s Audrey Werro in a near-personal best of 1 minute 54.45 seconds.
Werro narrowly edged out Dutch star Femke Broeders-Bol, who finished second with a national record time of 1 minute 57.13 seconds in her ongoing transition from the 400-meter hurdles.

Meanwhile, the men’s 100-meter dash saw South African youngster Bayanda Walaza secure a decisive victory by matching his personal best of 9.94 seconds, finishing ahead of a competitive international field.
