Kerr spent three seasons alongside Jordan at the Chicago Bulls in the mid-to-late 1990s, then went on to coach Curry for more than a decade in the Bay. In comments this week picked up by HoopsHype, he drew a direct line between the two.
“Honestly, it really does remind me of what it was like to play with Michael Jordan back in the day,” Kerr said of coaching a 38-year-old Curry. “Every single night you just are amazed and you marvel at what he’s capable of doing no matter what the defense does, but also just the longevity of it.”
The praise lands in the middle of a hot start for Curry. The guard is averaging 30 points per game through his first six outings of the 2026-27 season despite a minutes restriction, including a 44-point night against the Minnesota Timberwolves in which he added eight rebounds, six assists and two steals, according to Yahoo Sports. Golden State sit at 5-3.
Same defensive treatment, same response
Kerr’s second point was not about the shooting. It was about how opponents treat both players, and what he sees in the response.

“To see night after night, defenses doing everything possible to slow Steph down like they did with Michael, and yet the love for the game, the competitiveness, the passion, the desire to put on a show for the fans, there’s such great comparisons to be made there,” he told reporters.
That is the part most pundits cannot credibly speak to. Kerr was in the room when Jordan prepared for a double team, and he is in the room when Curry still does. The pattern he describes is not a stat line; it is a daily drill.
The debate he did not start
The comparison arrives with Curry having passed Jordan on the all-time regular-season games-played list earlier this season, a milestone that invites the broader legacy debate without quite settling it. Kerr stayed out of the GOAT argument. His point was narrower: the same nightly defensive attention, and the same willingness to answer it well past the age most stars have slowed down.
Curry’s scoring has climbed back to a level he had not reached since the 2020-21 campaign.
