Supercomputer Predicts the Final 2025/26 Championship Table

The Championship is back, and Opta’s supercomputer has already delivered its bold forecast for the 2025/26 season. After simulating every fixture 10,000 times, it’s Coventry City who come out on top, while the likes of Wrexham, Derby and Sheffield Wednesday face intense battles at the bottom. Here’s how the predicted table unfolds – from 24th all the way to the title.

24th – Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday are expected to finish rock-bottom of the Championship table with just 48.64 points. Henrik Pedersen’s men have struggled to adapt to life back in the second tier, and the supercomputer predicts a swift return to League One. Despite flashes of promise, Wednesday’s lack of consistency and firepower could prove fatal.

23rd – Oxford United

Oxford United are tipped for relegation after a tough campaign that sees them collect only 50.56 points. Under Gary Rowett, the U’s have found wins hard to come by, managing just one so far this season. A quick return to League One seems likely unless a dramatic turnaround occurs.

22nd – Derby County

Derby County’s return to the Championship hasn’t gone according to plan, with the Rams predicted to finish 22nd and drop back to League One. Despite earning five draws early on, their inability to secure wins has cost them dearly. The supercomputer suggests Derby’s season will end in disappointment once again.

Blackburn are projected to narrowly avoid the drop, finishing in 21st place with 54.34 points. After several inconsistent campaigns, Rovers appear set for another season of struggle. Defensive instability and poor form on the road could keep them hovering just above the danger zone.

20th – Sheffield United

Last season’s play-off finalists are predicted to fall drastically, finishing 20th with 55.54 points. Chris Wilder’s return has not sparked the revival fans hoped for, and the Blades’ form remains patchy. From fighting for promotion to fighting for survival, it’s been a humbling campaign.

19th – Norwich City

Norwich City’s struggles continue as the Canaries are expected to finish 19th with 55.88 points. The once Premier League regulars have failed to find stability and are predicted to flirt with relegation for much of the season. Fans will hope the club can regroup and rebuild for the future.

18th – Wrexham

After three straight promotions, Wrexham’s fairytale run could finally hit a bump, with the supercomputer placing them 18th. Phil Parkinson’s men are predicted to survive by the skin of their teeth, finishing with 56.49 points. Despite a tough start, mere survival would still be a remarkable achievement for the Welsh club.

Watford’s downward spiral seems to continue as they are forecasted to end the campaign in 17th place. With 57.14 expected points, the Hornets are stuck in mid-to-lower-table limbo. It’s another forgettable season for a club once accustomed to top-flight football.

Charlton’s return to the Championship has been solid, with the newly promoted side tipped to finish 16th on 58.94 points. After five years away from the division, they are expected to comfortably avoid relegation. It’s a season that lays a strong foundation for future growth.

15th – Portsmouth

Portsmouth are predicted to finish 15th, earning 59 points in a steady mid-table campaign. The south coast club’s form has been inconsistent but promising enough to stay clear of trouble. With three wins, three draws, and three defeats so far, Pompey are set for stability rather than glory.

14th – Hull City

Hull City’s improvement is noticeable, climbing from 21st last season to 14th this term with 59.53 points. The Tigers have shown flashes of progress but remain some way off the play-off pace. Another mid-table finish appears to be their realistic ceiling for now.

Swansea’s season is predicted to end in 12th place with 62.16 points – solid but unspectacular. Despite moments of brilliance, inconsistency has once again held the Swans back. The Welsh side remain comfortably safe but short of seriously challenging the top six.

11th – Stoke City

Stoke City are tipped to just miss out on the top 10 with 65.05 points. Once contenders for promotion, the Potters are expected to fade as the season progresses. It’s another frustrating mid-table finish for a team that continues to underperform relative to its squad depth.

10th – Southampton

Will Still’s Southampton are predicted to take 10th place on 65.51 points. After a rocky start to life in the Championship, the Saints are still finding their rhythm under their young manager. A top-half finish would be respectable given their early season struggles.

Millwall narrowly miss the play-offs, finishing ninth with 65.71 points. Despite being one of the league’s toughest sides at home, their inconsistency on the road costs them dearly. Once again, the Lions fall just short of taking the next big step.

8th – Queens Park Rangers

QPR

QPR are projected to finish eighth on 65.82 points under new boss Julien Stéphan. The Frenchman has brought renewed energy to the squad, though a play-off spot remains out of reach. A top-10 finish would still represent progress after a turbulent few seasons.

7th – Bristol City

Bristol City

Bristol City’s resurgence continues as they finish seventh with 65.93 points, just outside the play-offs. Gerhard Struber’s men have been inconsistent, but their attacking intent has earned them plenty of admirers. The Robins are clearly moving in the right direction.

6th – Preston North End
