Napoli are prepared to let Scott McTominay leave for €25-30m next summer, and three Premier League clubs are already circling.
Sky Switzerland reporter Sacha Tavolieri put Napoli’s asking price for the Scotland midfielder at €25-30m for next summer on Wednesday, with his agent said to have already opened preliminary talks with several English clubs.
Manchester United and Aston Villa both made inquiries about the 29-year-old during the summer window, according to Italian reporting on Tavolieri’s story, and Newcastle have since surged into the race with their own enquiry.
The €8m wage problem
McTominay’s contract at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona runs until 2028, which should give Napoli leverage. The issue is money.

He is understood to want around €8m a season to renew, well above what owner Aurelio De Laurentiis is prepared to pay, according to Football Italia. Napoli currently carry him on their books at €7.5m.
A sale in the summer of 2027 would be the club’s last realistic window to bank a transfer fee before the final year of the deal. The €25-30m valuation is roughly what Napoli paid Manchester United for him in August 2024, when the move went through for a reported £25.7m.
An MVP available for €30m
McTominay’s record since leaving Old Trafford makes the asking price look light. In his first season under Antonio Conte in 2024-25, he scored 12 league goals, was named Serie A MVP and included in the division’s Team of the Season as Napoli won the Scudetto. Last season Napoli finished runners-up to Inter.
He is now working under new head coach Massimiliano Allegri, who was appointed over the summer to replace Conte.

A return to Old Trafford
The most eye-catching possibility is a move back to Manchester United. The club sold McTominay in August 2024, and Michael Carrick’s side would be bringing him back for roughly the same money they banked on him.
Aston Villa’s interest dates to the summer window, while Newcastle have entered the race more recently with their own enquiry, and both have the squad room to absorb a Scotland international of his profile.
The player himself has not closed the door. Tavolieri reports that McTominay has “nostalgia for Great Britain” and is open to a Premier League return as soon as next summer.
