The PGA Tour announced its full 2027 schedule on August 26, and the headline change concerns Miami. The Cadillac Championship, played on the Trump-owned Blue Monster course, has been pulled out of its April 30-May 3 window and dropped into March, where the tournament sat for decades before it fell off the schedule in 2016.
The signature event, worth $20 million, will now open the Florida Swing before The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass on March 11-14 and the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill on March 18-21. It gives the Tour a three-week Florida block heading into the Masters.
Why the May experiment ended after one year
The 2026 debut had the numbers on the leaderboard but not in the stands. Cameron Young won by six shots on a course that, in late April, ran into upper-80s heat, oppressive humidity and rain that pushed the final round back by two hours. Grandstands were noticeably empty, and several top names, including Rory McIlroy, skipped the trip to Miami.
A Tour source told Pro Golf Weekly the March move “gives us a stronger, more cohesive block leading into the Masters.”

A decade off the schedule
Doral hosted a PGA Tour event uninterrupted from 1962 to 2016, latterly as the WGC-Cadillac Championship. The end of that run is often described as a political falling-out with then-candidate Donald Trump, but the record from the time is narrower.
Then-commissioner Tim Finchem said the Tour was “not able to secure sponsorship for next year’s WGC at Doral or for years out”, and he acknowledged the difficulty of finding brands willing to share billing with the Trump name. The event was moved to Mexico City in June 2016 as Trump was clinching the Republican presidential nomination.
Trump was scathing at the time, calling it “a sad day for Miami, the United States and the game of golf”.
He also told reporters he hoped the Tour had “kidnapping insurance” for its Mexico trip.

In the interim, the Blue Monster hosted four LIV Golf events between 2022 and 2025, with the Saudi-backed circuit dropping the venue when Cadillac and the PGA Tour agreed to return for 2026.
The last year of the current format
The 2027 season will be the final one under the current 36-event structure before the Tour’s planned 2028 format overhaul. One new tournament, the Sompo Championship, joins the calendar on July 26-August 1, and the BMW Championship moves to Liberty National in New Jersey.
