Trump reacts after Joshua ends Paul’s boxing run in sixth round
Donald Trump has offered his reaction to Jake Paul’s defeat against Anthony Joshua, praising the social media star’s willingness to step into the ring despite being overmatched in size and experience.
The U.S. president said he watched the fight while travelling and later shared his thoughts on Truth Social, commending Paul’s courage in facing the former heavyweight champion.
“On the plane I just got to watch the Jake Paul Fight, and he did really well, especially as a display of GREAT Courage against a very talented and large Anthony Joshua,” Trump wrote. “Fantastic Entertainment, but Kudos to Jake for his Stamina, and frankly, Ability, against a much bigger man!”
The bout, held in the early hours of Saturday at Miami’s Kaseya Center, had been billed as a spectacle long before either fighter entered the ring.

A slow start, then a sudden ending
Those expecting early fireworks were left waiting. The opening rounds passed with little sustained action, as Paul relied on movement and Joshua remained patient, choosing not to force exchanges.
As the fight wore on, the balance shifted. Joshua began to apply more pressure, and the physical difference between the two fighters became harder to ignore.
The contest ended in the sixth round when Joshua landed a right hand that stopped Paul. Post-fight reports said the blow fractured Paul’s jaw in two places, handing him the first stoppage loss of his professional boxing career.
Size over skill, promoter argues
Trump’s assessment closely echoed comments made by Paul’s promoter, Nakisa Bidarian, who pointed to the size disparity as the decisive factor rather than a clear gap in boxing ability. Bidarian also claimed Paul had done enough to take parts of the fight before the stoppage.

For Joshua, the result was another emphatic reminder of his power and experience at heavyweight. For Paul, it reopened debate about how far his crossover boxing career can realistically go.
Surgery and a pause in competition
Paul later confirmed on X, formerly Twitter, that he had undergone surgery on his jaw at Miami University Hospital.
“Just got out of surgery. Everything went smooth,” he wrote. “Lots of pain and stiffness. Gotta eat liquids for 7 days.”
Under Florida Athletic Commission rules, Paul is subject to a mandatory medical suspension, ruling him out of competition in the short term. Even so, he has already begun talking publicly about a return, including floating a possible fight with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

For now, those plans remain speculative, with recovery the immediate priority following the most punishing night of Paul’s boxing career.
