Quinton Fortune wants Manchester United to pay whatever it takes to bring Harry Kane back to England. The timing could not be worse.
Days before the former South African winger made his case, Bayern Munich and Kane’s camp reached an agreement in principle on a contract extension running to 2029, Sky Germany and Fabrizio Romano reported on 5 October 2026. The paperwork is yet to be signed.
Fortune, who won three Premier League titles at Old Trafford between 1999 and 2006, left little doubt about what United should do if the Munich deal still falters.
“He’s not young but given what he’s achieved, Man Utd should go and get Harry Kane as soon as possible, whatever it takes,” Fortune told Boyle Sports, in comments carried by Bavarian Football Works.

Kane is 33 and his current Bayern Munich contract runs out at the end of the 2026-27 season. The planned renewal would push that end date back by two more years.
Dublin: ‘Give them 70 or 80 million’
The chorus of former United forwards calling for Kane is not new. Dion Dublin spent the previous week making the same case on BetVictor’s football channel, and he was willing to put a figure on it where Fortune was not.
“If you want him, go get him. Even if he signs a new deal there, give them the 70 or 80 million, whatever they want, because you’ve got to get goals,” Dublin said.
“Even at 33, 34, 35, I’d still nick Harry for a year or two because he just finds his way into good positions.”

Dublin’s frustration was aimed partly at a United courtship he feels has been drawn out for years without a bid. He argued the club should pay the price regardless of whether Kane extends in Germany, because the pool of guaranteed goalscorers is tiny.
Why Bayern are winning the negotiation
Kane’s record in Bavaria does not help the Manchester United case. He has scored 101 goals in 98 Bundesliga matches since his 2023 move from Tottenham, and added 34 in 39 Champions League appearances for Bayern.
Bayern honorary president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who usually resists long deals for players above 30, publicly made the exception for Kane.
“In the past I would have said: as a matter of principle, players over 30 should only be given one-year contracts. But there are exceptions when you are convinced by a player. And we are with Harry,” Rummenigge said.

Charlie Kane, the striker’s brother and agent, led the talks on the player side throughout the year. The two-year extension would keep Kane at Bayern Munich until the summer of 2029.
