Liverpool has reportedly won the high-stakes transfer race for RB Leipzig’s highly-rated Ivory Coast international, Yan Diomande, with the 19-year-old winger opting for Anfield over Paris Saint-Germain.
According to reports from Media Foot, Diomande has made his decision, with an agreement understood to be in place between the player’s representatives and Liverpool. This development sees PSG withdraw from contention, having been unwilling to meet RB Leipzig’s valuation for the talented youngster.
PSG’s sporting advisor, Luis Campos, reportedly decided against pursuing Diomande further after Leipzig’s demanded price exceeded the Parisian club’s spending parameters. With Diomande now seemingly off their radar, PSG is expected to shift its focus to alternative targets for the summer window, particularly if Bradley Barcola departs.
Diomande as a potential Salah successor
For Liverpool, the reported acquisition of Diomande signals a clear intent, especially given the context of Mohamed Salah’s future. Diomande is widely seen as a potential long-term successor to the Egyptian superstar on the right flank, a role that carries significant expectations at Anfield.

The young Ivorian has already demonstrated considerable promise. Last season, he showcased his attacking prowess by scoring 13 goals across 36 matches for RB Leipzig. His talent was also on display at the World Cup, where he became the youngest player to represent his country in the tournament. During Ivory Coast’s campaign, Diomande impressed as his team secured a victory over Ecuador before suffering a narrow, late defeat to Germany.
Hurdles remain with Leipzig
While an agreement with Diomande’s camp appears to be in place, Liverpool still faces the crucial task of negotiating and agreeing on a transfer fee with RB Leipzig. The German club’s firm stance on their asking price was a key factor in PSG’s withdrawal, suggesting Liverpool will need to present a compelling offer to secure the deal.
This potential signing, alongside the recent arrival of Victor Munoz from Osasuna – the first deal of the Andoni Iraola era at Anfield – suggests a strategic direction for Liverpool under their new manager. Both players are known for their pace and dynamism, hinting at Iraola’s desire to inject fresh energy and attacking impetus into the squad.
