RB Leipzig’s highly-rated winger Yan Diomande has become one of the most sought-after talents in European football, but his future destination appears to have taken a dramatic turn. Initially considered a prime target for Liverpool, the 19-year-old now seems to be leaning towards a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Diomande enjoyed a standout season for RB Leipzig, contributing significantly to their third-place finish in the Bundesliga and securing a spot in next season’s Champions League. In 36 appearances, he registered an impressive 13 goals and 10 assists, totaling 24 goal involvements.

Anfield’s initial appeal

Liverpool’s interest in Diomande stems from a clear need for reinforcements in wide attacking areas. The departure of Mohamed Salah following the termination of his contract has left a significant void, while the futures of Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa at Anfield remain uncertain. GIVEMESPORT senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs, speaking on the Market Madness podcast, reported that Diomande was a “leading candidate” for Liverpool to replace Salah.

Diomande himself had previously fueled speculation about a move to Merseyside. In a TikTok live stream, he openly expressed his desire to play for the Reds, stating, “I want to play at Anfield. I want to play for Liverpool. I’m a big fan of Liverpool.” This sentiment had positioned him firmly on Liverpool’s radar as they looked to rebuild their attacking options.

A shift towards Paris

However, recent comments from Diomande suggest a significant shift in his preference. Speaking to l’Equipe, the young winger articulated a strong admiration for Paris Saint-Germain, a club with deep personal ties.

“Paris Saint-Germain is a team I’ve loved since I was a child. My father supports Paris Saint-Germain, and it’s a team I admire as a football fan,” Diomande told the French publication. “It would be a pleasure for me to come and play here with one of the biggest clubs. It’s always a pleasure to come here because, with French being spoken, I think adapting wouldn’t be difficult. But why not?”

This public declaration, highlighting both his childhood affection and the practical advantages of a move to the French capital, indicates a strong pull towards PSG. The French giants are also in the race for his signature and would undoubtedly welcome a talent of his calibre.

RB Leipzig, while hoping Diomande might still sign a new deal, are bracing for offers this summer. The German club is expected to demand a substantial fee in the region of €100 million (£87 million) for their prized asset, setting the stage for a potentially intense bidding war between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.
