Ferrari has confirmed that Dino Beganovic will make his Formula 1 debut at the Bahrain Grand Prix next month, stepping in for Charles Leclerc during the first free practice session.
The 21-year-old Swede, a long-time member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, will take the reins of Leclerc’s SF-25 as part of an FIA mandate that requires each team to run a rookie in two practice sessions per season.
While Beganovic has yet to race in F1, he recently graduated to Formula 2 and is now poised to make his mark on the big stage.

“Dino Beganovic is going to have a busy weekend in Bahrain: the 21 year old Swedish Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy student will be racing in the second round of the Formula 2 championship with the Hitech Grand Prix team and he will also make his debut driving in an official Formula 1 session, when he gets behind the wheel of Charles Leclerc’s SF-25 for the first free practice session.”
One of Maranello’s Own
Beganovic’s debut is not only a personal milestone but also a proud moment for Ferrari’s academy. He becomes just the fifth member of the Maranello-based program to drive an official session for the team, joining an elite list that includes Charles and Arthur Leclerc, Robert Shwartzman, and Oliver Bearman.
Having joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2020, Beganovic has been on a steady rise through the junior categories, collecting accolades in Italian F4, Formula Regional, and Formula 3. His dual challenge in Bahrain — juggling both F2 racing and an F1 practice session — is a clear testament to Ferrari’s belief in his potential.
All eyes will be on the rookie as he takes his first high-speed steps into Formula 1.
