Carlos Alcaraz has announced his withdrawal from both the Queen’s Club Championships and Wimbledon, extending his absence from the ATP Tour to four consecutive tournaments. The decision, revealed on Tuesday, means the Spanish star will miss his second Grand Slam of the year, following his earlier absence from the French Open.

The lingering wrist issue, identified as tenosynovitis, first surfaced during the Barcelona Open in mid-April. Alcaraz was forced to pull out of that tournament and subsequently withdrew from the Italian Open.

His absence from the French Open marked his first missed Grand Slam since 2023, and Wimbledon will now be his second major tournament sidelined this season.

Tenosynovitis is an inflammation of the connective tissue protecting tendons, typically caused by overuse. While recovery for this condition usually spans 4-6 weeks for a return to normal activity, the precise nature and severity of Alcaraz’s specific condition remain unclear. Given the forceful wrist movements inherent in professional tennis, his recovery is expected to take longer to prevent re-injury.

A persistent wrist issue

Alcaraz’s injury has proven to be a significant setback, particularly considering his prior reputation as a durable player throughout his career. This extended layoff represents his latest period on the sidelines.

In a public statement, Alcaraz expressed his disappointment and commitment to recovery. “My recovery is going well and I feel much better, but unfortunately I’m still not ready to be able to play, and that’s why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen’s and Wimbledon,” he shared on social media. “They are two really special tournaments for me and I’ll miss them a lot. We keep working to return as soon as possible!”

  • The string of withdrawals includes:
  • Barcelona Open (mid-April)
  • Italian Open
  • French Open
  • Queen’s Club Championships
  • Wimbledon

Sporting News reported on the multiple withdrawals, detailing the injury’s timeline and impact. Alcaraz’s primary focus now shifts to regaining full fitness. He hopes to make a full recovery in time to compete in the U.S. Open later this summer, aiming to return to Grand Slam action before the season concludes.
