Manchester City are reportedly making a significant move to re-sign Spanish international right-back Pedro Porro from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, with an asking price of £50 million set by Spurs.

The pursuit comes as City faces a summer of considerable transition, including the confirmed departure of manager Pep Guardiola, who will be succeeded by Enzo Maresca for the 2026/27 Premier League campaign. Adding to the changes, key veterans John Stones and Bernardo Silva are also set to leave the club ahead of next season, creating a need for strategic reinforcements.

A return to the Etihad?

Porro, now 26, was previously on City’s books between 2019 and 2022 but notably failed to make a single first-team appearance for the club. He departed for Sporting CP in 2022, where he quickly established himself as a leader, contributing to a League title, a Supercup, and two League Cups.

His impressive performances in Portugal led to a €40 million move to Tottenham in the January 2022-23 transfer window. Since joining Spurs, Porro has flourished, becoming a vital component of their squad. His contributions include:

  • 152 appearances
  • 13 goals
  • 26 assists
  • Helping Spurs win the Europa League in 2025

A regular international under Spain coach Luis de la Fuente, Porro is also on Spain’s list for the upcoming World Cup, further highlighting his growing stature in the game. City’s sporting director, Hugo Viana, is reportedly well-acquainted with Porro from their shared time in Portugal, which could play a role in the current negotiations.

Tottenham’s fight to retain key asset

Tottenham, however, is not prepared to let go of Porro easily. Manager Roberto De Zerbi views the right-back as a crucial part of his plans and is keen to retain his services. Spurs have already attempted to initiate talks over a new deal for Porro, which would see him remain at the club until 2028, but have yet to reach an agreement.

According to AS, Manchester City has already made direct contact regarding a potential transfer, a situation both the player and Tottenham are aware of. The Spanish publication detailed the unfolding scenario:

Tottenham have held talks with the Spanish full-back to try and extend his contract beyond 2028, but so far they haven’t managed to convince him, and now the situation has taken a new turn. Some haven’t wasted any time. Manchester City, with recurring problems at right-back, have already initiated contact to try and secure a transfer, even before the World Cup begins. Both the player and Tottenham are aware of City’s interest. The London club isn’t giving up and doesn’t want to lose one of the most important players in the squad. But at this point, a significant effort will be required. However, Spurs have already set a starting price: £50 million. Any club wanting to sign him this summer would have to pay just over €57 million.
