Real Madrid are reportedly preparing a significant offer for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who is understood to be keen on ending his three-year spell at Stamford Bridge to move to the Bernabeu this summer.
The Argentine World Cup winner has reportedly informed Chelsea of his desire to leave following a frustrating campaign for the London club. Chelsea finished a disappointing 10th in the Premier League, failing to qualify for any European competition, a factor believed to be central to Fernandez’s discontent.
According to The Sun, Real Madrid are planning to test Chelsea’s resolve with an official bid for Fernandez. The Spanish giants’ president, Florentino Perez, has reportedly promised incoming manager Jose Mourinho substantial signings this summer, and Mourinho is believed to be keen on bringing Fernandez to the Bernabeu.
A significant investment and a season of frustration
Chelsea originally paid a British record fee of £106 million to sign Fernandez from Benfica in January 2023. Despite the club’s struggles, Fernandez has been a consistent presence in the midfield, making over 50 appearances in each of the last two campaigns. However, his reported desire to leave comes after a season where he previously angered Chelsea supporters and former manager Liam Rosenior by repeatedly flirting with Real Madrid.

While Chelsea are not actively looking to sell one of their key assets, they are understood to value Fernandez at around £120 million, suggesting they would be open to a sale if their valuation is met.
Alonso’s challenge and Mourinho’s ambition
The potential transfer saga presents an immediate challenge for Xabi Alonso, who is set to take charge at Stamford Bridge in July. Alonso reportedly considers Fernandez a valued member of the squad and wants him to stay and be a central part of his plans for the upcoming season.
Conversely, Jose Mourinho’s arrival at Real Madrid, coupled with Perez’s promise of significant investment, signals a strong intent from the Spanish champions to bolster their squad. Fernandez’s midfield prowess and experience could prove a valuable addition as Mourinho looks to shape his new team.
