Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has reportedly reversed his decision regarding a potential summer transfer, despite significant interest from Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester United. The 23-year-old’s change of heart complicates a saga that has seen him linked with a move away from the Spanish capital, particularly following Jose Mourinho’s return as head coach.

Earlier reports from TEAMtalk indicated that Camavinga had approved a summer exit, actively seeking a new club with the Premier League understood to be his preferred destination. Liverpool, under manager Andoni Iraola, had intensified their pursuit in recent weeks, reportedly contacting Real Madrid to discuss a potential deal. Manchester United were also credited with a strong interest in the versatile midfielder, with initial valuations suggesting he could be available for around £50 million.

A change of heart amidst premier league interest

However, a new report from Mundo Deportivo suggests a dramatic shift in Camavinga’s stance. The Spanish publication claims the midfielder no longer wishes to leave the Spanish giants and has instructed his representatives to disregard any incoming offers. This reported U-turn comes after a season where Camavinga featured prominently for Real Madrid, making 43 appearances across all competitions. His versatility was a key asset, deployed as a central midfielder, left-back, and even on the left wing. Despite his contributions, the season ended with disappointment, including a red card in Real Madrid’s Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, which concluded 6-4 on aggregate.

The initial desire to seek a transfer was reportedly fueled by his omission from the France squad for the 2026 World Cup, a stark contrast to his involvement in the 2022 final just four years prior.

Mourinho’s plans complicate camavinga’s madrid stay

While Camavinga’s personal preference now appears to be to remain at the Santiago Bernabéu, his future may ultimately rest in the hands of returning head coach Jose Mourinho. Mourinho is understood to be a keen admirer of Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, reportedly viewing the Argentine as his “dream midfield signing.” To fund a potential move for Fernandez, Real Madrid may need to offload a significant asset, with either Camavinga or Aurelien Tchouameni identified as potential departures.

Mundo Deportivo further states that Real Madrid themselves are willing to sell Camavinga, valuing him at approximately €60 million. This figure, slightly higher than the earlier £50 million reported by TEAMtalk, indicates the club’s readiness to negotiate if it facilitates Mourinho’s transfer targets. The final decision on Camavinga’s future will likely be made by Mourinho, who could be open to a sale to finance his midfield overhaul, regardless of the player’s renewed desire to stay.
