DFB calls press conference in Frankfurt
Jürgen Klopp is expected to be presented as the new head coach of the German national team on Friday, July 24, as the German Football Association prepares to make one of its most significant appointments in recent years.
The DFB has called a press conference at its headquarters in Frankfurt for 11:00 CEST. Although the association did not mention Klopp by name in its invitation, the purpose of the event is widely understood to be his official presentation.
According to Sportschau’s report on the scheduled DFB press conference, Klopp is expected to be unveiled as Julian Nagelsmann’s successor during the event.
The appointment will bring Klopp back to the touchline for the first time since he stepped down as Liverpool manager at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Deal reportedly runs until 2030
Klopp is expected to sign a contract covering the next four years, including the 2030 World Cup.
According to Sky Sport Germany’s report by Florian Plettenberg, Patrick Berger, Kerry Hau and Torben Hoffmann, an agreement was reached between Klopp, the DFB and his employer, Red Bull, during the closing stages of the 2026 World Cup.
The 59-year-old has served as Red Bull’s head of global soccer since January 2025. The position kept him closely involved in the game after his departure from Liverpool, but did not include the daily responsibilities of coaching a team.
His expected move to the national side therefore ends a two-year absence from management rather than a complete retirement from football.
Germany turns to one of its biggest names
Klopp is set to replace Nagelsmann, who left the national team following Germany’s disappointing elimination by Paraguay in the first knockout round of the 2026 World Cup.
According to the DFB’s official statement on Nagelsmann’s departure, the former Bayern Munich manager asked to be released from his duties after concluding that the team needed a fresh start.
The association subsequently identified Klopp as its preferred candidate. In another official DFB update on the negotiations, the governing body confirmed that president Bernd Neuendorf and vice-president Hans-Joachim Watzke had held extensive talks with him in New York.
The DFB said the discussions had produced an understanding on the essential terms of a potential contract, although the agreement still required approval from the relevant governing bodies and a settlement with Red Bull.

A new challenge after Liverpool success
Klopp arrives with one of the strongest managerial records of his generation.
During almost nine years at Liverpool, he led the club to the Premier League title, the Champions League, the FA Cup and two League Cups. Before moving to England, he won two Bundesliga titles and the German Cup with Borussia Dortmund.
His challenge with Germany will be very different. Rather than working with players every day, Klopp will have limited preparation time during international windows as he attempts to rebuild a side that has struggled to meet expectations at recent major tournaments.
Nevertheless, his reputation, leadership and familiarity with German football are likely to bring renewed optimism around the national team.

Until the DFB makes its announcement at the scheduled press conference, however, Klopp should still be described as Germany’s expected or designated head coach rather than its officially confirmed appointment.
