Max Verstappen, the reigning Formula 1 world champion, is set to return to his racing roots for a unique karting exhibition titled “Max vs 100.” Teaming up with Disney+ and Red Bull, the event promises to be one of the most unconventional challenges of his career, streaming live from Silverstone on September 16.

As reported by SPORTbible, the high-stakes event will see Verstappen start 101st on the grid, tasked with overtaking 100 other drivers on the legendary Silverstone circuit. His opponents will be a diverse field, comprising “gaming talent, social media creators, streamers, media personalities and surprise guests from around the world,” according to Disney and ESPN. This unique format aims to test the F1 star’s raw driving skill against sheer numbers.

For Verstappen, the return to karting is a nostalgic journey to the discipline that laid the foundation for his illustrious F1 career. “In go-karts you learn all the basics: starts, defending, overtaking,” Verstappen commented. “Of course, I spent a long period of my life go-karting, so it’s always nice to return. It’s about understanding the grip of the go-kart. I’ve done so many years in go-karting that you quite naturally get back into things.”

His participation in “Max vs 100” follows a recent expansion of his racing activities beyond Formula 1, including 24-hour endurance racing at the Nürburgring in a Mercedes-AMG car and a blistering wet lap at Fuji Speedway in a Super GT car, where he was two seconds quicker than GT500 race winner Atsushi Miyake.
