Guéla Doué’s Bundesliga move was locked in on the last day of the summer transfer window. Bayer Leverkusen reached a €37.5m agreement with RC Strasbourg for the 23-year-old Ivory Coast right-back, according to Fabrizio Romano, with the player cleared to travel for a medical.

Doué originally joined Strasbourg from Ligue 1 rivals Rennes in a €6m deal. He is the latest key departure from La Meinau this summer, following Valentin Barco, Diego Moreira and Abdoul Ouattara out of the club.

Right-back was the thin spot

The move addresses the sharpest gap in Carles Martínez Novell’s squad. Before Monday, 35-year-old Lucas Vázquez was the only senior right-back available at the BayArena after a summer of departures. Leverkusen have already spent €52m combined on Afonso Moreira from Lyon and Facundo Medina from Marseille this window.

Martínez, appointed on a two-year deal through to June 2028, took charge on 1 July after Kasper Hjulmand’s exit. The 42-year-old Spaniard inherited a squad that finished sixth in 2025-26, narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification.

The Doué family split

Guéla is the brother of PSG forward Désiré Doué. Guéla is an Ivory Coast international; the two are now at two of Europe’s most-watched clubs in the same window.

Doué must complete his medical in Leverkusen before signing.
