Four deals, three Premier League clubs and one Ligue 1 side, all being pieced together in the same 48 hours. That is the scale of what Everton are attempting as the window shuts, with TEAMtalk describing it as a “quadruple deal” built around the departure of one centre-forward and the arrival of another.

The piece already in motion is Beto. Fiorentina have agreed a fee in the region of €17-18m with Everton for the Portuguese forward, with the club authorising him to fly to Italy for a medical after Joshua Zirkzee’s camp turned Fiorentina down.

His exit is what opens the space for a new Everton No. 9. Reports from Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, carried by Goal, say Everton have submitted an €18m proposal to Monaco for Balogun and that the 25-year-old has reached an agreement in principle on personal terms. Tottenham, who had been circling, are said to have pulled out after signing Omar Marmoush and Savio.

Monaco open to Balogun exit

Nothing has been signed at club level, and Monaco’s public line has been deliberately vague. Speaking at the Conference League draw last week, Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro told reporters he did not know how the story would end.

“I don’t know, we have four days left in the window. It’s possible he stays or leaves,” Scuro said, as quoted by Foot Mercato.

Elsewhere he was more open about the direction of travel.

“It’s his third season, so it’s different. We are open to a departure. He has the right to leave if he wishes,” Scuro said, in comments carried by La Diagonale.

Monaco have already brought in Matthis Abline as cover, and TEAMtalk reports the club also need to free a non-EU registration slot for Mexican signing Erik Lira, a technicality that could yet decide whether Balogun’s move goes through in time.

Grealish, Ndiaye and Richarlison all in play

The Balogun push is not the only file open on Merseyside. Everton are also in advanced talks with Manchester City to bring Jack Grealish, 30, back to Goodison Park on loan after his spell there last season, according to updates from Fabrizio Romano relayed by Yahoo. Grealish has made clear he wants a return.

That deal is being negotiated in parallel with the sale of Iliman Ndiaye to Tottenham, part of a swap that sends Richarlison back to Everton nearly four years after he left for Spurs in a club-record £60m move in 2022. The 29-year-old Brazilian, along with Kevin Danso and Pape Matar Sarr, formally asked to leave Tottenham before the deadline, and medicals for both sides of the swap are being rushed through.

For Balogun, whose profile has grown sharply since he committed to the United States men’s national team, a Premier League move at Everton would be his first since leaving Arsenal for Monaco in 2023. None of the four deals are done. All of them still need to be over the line before the English transfer window closes at 11pm local time on Tuesday, 1 September.
