Ruben Amorim wants a name Manchester United fans will recognise. According to Tuttosport, the AC Milan head coach used a weekend meeting with the Rossoneri’s directors to press for a move for Leny Yoro, the French defender he coached at Old Trafford last season.

The Italian window closes on Tuesday, 1 September. Yoro sits near the top of the shortlist Amorim handed to the club’s decision-makers.

Five hours to shape a deadline push

Amorim held a five-hour meeting with Milan directors Hendrik Almstadt and Bobby Gardiner on Saturday to finalise his last targets. The Rossoneri are still hunting reinforcements, with the focus on defence, before the deadline.

Yoro is a natural fit at the back: he and Amorim already know each other. The 20-year-old was a regular pick for the Portuguese coach at Old Trafford last season, before losing his place in the starting XI under new United manager Michael Carrick.

Pushed to the bench at Old Trafford

Yoro’s start to 2026-27 has been thin. He was an unused substitute in United’s opening 2-0 defeat away at Hull City, and Ayden Heaven has taken his place at the heart of Carrick’s back line.

Yoro is under contract at Old Trafford until 2029. United paid Lille £52 million for him in the summer of 2024. Milan analyst Carlo Pellegatti, citing Calciomercato, put Milan’s likely valuation at around €50 million.

“Keep an eye out for a new name, Leny Yoro of Manchester United, whom Amorim is very keen on,” Pellegatti said on his YouTube channel.

Mendes in the middle

Yoro is represented by Jorge Mendes, who would need to be involved to prise the defender out of Manchester before Tuesday.

Nothing in the reporting suggests United have opened talks, and Milan have not made a formal bid public. The window in Italy closes at the end of Tuesday.
