Mauricio Pochettino has just committed four more years to the United States. He is already thinking about what comes after.
Pressed by Sky Sports News on whether he could see himself back in the Premier League once his USMNT commitment ends, the Argentine answered with two words: “Why not?”
The comment lands only weeks after U.S. Soccer announced a new agreement that keeps him in charge through the 2030 World Cup, extending a tenure that began in October 2024. Federation president Cindy Parlow Cone said Pochettino had built “a culture where players trust the group, trust the process and trust each other”.
That extension came a month after the United States exited the 2026 World Cup with a 4-1 round-of-16 defeat to Belgium at Seattle Stadium on 6 July. Charles De Ketelaere scored twice, Malik Tillman replied on a free kick for the Americans, Hans Vanaken added Belgium’s third and Romelu Lukaku sealed it with a late fourth.

The Premier League itch never went away
Pochettino has not tried to hide his interest in club football. In an interview published on 6 November 2025, he told BBC Sport that the Premier League is “the best league in the world” and that he was missing it.
“I am so happy in America, but also thinking one day to come back to the Premier League. It’s the most competitive league,” he told the BBC.
Ten months on, the message is the same, only the timeline has moved. His new US Soccer contract turns any return to England into a project for the back end of the decade rather than the next transfer window.
The Levy line stays open
Tottenham is where the ambition still points. Pochettino spent five and a half years at the club between 2014 and 2019, taking a squad built around Harry Kane to a Champions League final in Madrid.

In an exclusive with Sky Sports News in March 2025, he confirmed he still spoke regularly to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
“I would like one day to come back. We see the timing, like Daniel said,” Pochettino said of a possible Tottenham return.
His only other Premier League posting, a season at Chelsea in 2023-24, ended in mutual separation. His name has surfaced whenever a top-six job has opened in the two years since, and the USMNT extension has not stopped that.
The new contract, however, ties him to the United States all the way through the 2030 World Cup cycle in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
