Five matches, five goals. Aubameyang’s latest arrived at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on Sunday, a 78th-minute header from a Yeremay Hernández cross that pulled Deportivo level at 1-1 against Getafe and kept the promoted side unbeaten.

The 37-year-old is now the first player to score in each of the opening five matchdays of a La Liga season since Zlatan Ibrahimović did it with Barcelona in 2009, beIN Sports reported. At Deportivo, only Pahíño in 1954-55 and Walter Pandiani in 2003-04 had done it before him.

Captain Ximo Navarro spoke for the dressing room on Movistar Plus after the draw.

“Aubameyang is a world-class star. Everyone knows the calibre of player he is. The run of form he’s on is impressive,” Navarro said, according to Yahoo Sports.

€1.5m from Marseille in July

Deportivo secured Aubameyang for a reported €1.5m in July, when Marseille pushed him out of their plans. The two-year deal took him back to La Liga, as beIN Sports confirmed at the time, with the Galician club playing top-flight football for the first time since 2018.

The bet has paid off almost every weekend since. Five goals and two assists in five matches mean Aubameyang has had a direct hand in seven of the nine La Liga goals Deportivo have scored so far.

Pandiani’s club record, six goals in the first six matchdays of 2003-04, is one goal away.
