Two words sparked the controversy
Real Madrid winger Yan Diomande has appeared to respond to a social media comment widely interpreted as a dig at his €140 million transfer fee.
The exchange began after Barcelona defeated Levante 4–2, with Karim Adeyemi scoring for the Catalan club. Adeyemi later shared a post on Instagram, where his wife, rapper Loredana Zefi, left the comment: “140 MILLION.”
She did not mention Diomande by name. However, the figure matched the total value of the Ivorian’s summer transfer from RB Leipzig to Real Madrid, leading supporters and Spanish media to interpret the message as a comparison between the two players.
Diomande cost Madrid a guaranteed €125 million, with another €15 million potentially due in performance-related bonuses. If every condition is met, the 19-year-old will become the most expensive signing in the club’s history.

According to SPORTbible’s account of the social media exchange, Diomande subsequently posted a response of his own without directly naming Adeyemi or Zefi.
Diomande answers through music
Rather than publish a written statement, Diomande uploaded a TikTok video in which he sang along to a French song. One section of the lyrics referred directly to the number at the centre of the debate.
“140 million, that’s what they asked for. They’ll always come to criticise us, we just keep climbing,” the translated lyrics said, as reported by GOAL.
The timing meant the video was quickly viewed as an answer to Zefi’s comment. Diomande did not explicitly confirm that interpretation, making it more accurate to describe the post as an apparent response rather than a direct personal attack.

The young winger has faced intense scrutiny since arriving at the Santiago Bernabéu. A transfer package potentially worth €140 million immediately created enormous expectations, even though Diomande remains at the beginning of his first season in Madrid.
Rivalry places every performance under scrutiny
The episode has gained further attention because it involves players representing Real Madrid and Barcelona. Adeyemi has made a fast start in Catalonia following his move from Borussia Dortmund, while Diomande has required more time to establish himself in Madrid’s attack.
Comparisons between the pair remain imperfect. They joined different teams for different fees and are competing in contrasting tactical roles. Diomande is also only 19 and was signed as both an immediate option and a long-term investment.
Nevertheless, the size of his transfer means every performance will be examined closely. Madrid committed €125 million before bonuses after his breakthrough season with RB Leipzig, making patience more difficult whenever he fails to score or start.

What began as a two-word Instagram comment has therefore become part of the wider pressure surrounding Real Madrid’s record investment. Diomande’s musical response suggests he is fully aware of that attention, even if he chose not to address Zefi directly.
