Trump was named honorary chairman by the PGA Tour on August 29, a role he last filled in 2017 when the biennial team match play event was held at Liberty National in New Jersey. The tour confirmed the appointment the same day Trump posted his acceptance on Truth Social.

“At the request of the PGA Tour, and its Great new Commissioner, Brian Rolapp, it is my Honor to accept being the Honorary Chairman of the upcoming Presidents Cup,” Trump wrote.

He also billed the field as one worth watching.

“This will be a particularly exciting event. Both teams are ‘loaded’ with Talent.”

PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp welcomed the acceptance in the tour’s statement.

“We are grateful to President Trump for accepting our invitation to serve as Honorary Chairman for the 2026 Presidents Cup,” Rolapp said.

Trump has not disclosed which day he plans to be at Medinah.

US on a ten-cup winning streak

The US arrives at Medinah having won ten Presidents Cups in a row. The all-time record stands at 13 wins, one loss and one tie, with the International Team’s only outright victory coming at Royal Melbourne in 1998 and a tie at Fancourt in 2003 the only other blemish.

Captain Brandt Snedeker’s twelve is anchored by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and includes automatic qualifiers Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark, Sam Burns, Russell Henley and Collin Morikawa. Snedeker used his six picks on Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Chris Gotterup, Jackson Koivun and Jacob Bridgeman when the roster was finalized on September 1.

Koivun, 21, Gotterup and Bridgeman are all making their Presidents Cup debuts.

Ogilvy’s rebuilt Internationals

Geoff Ogilvy leads a side that has to break the streak to keep the event competitive. His automatic qualifiers are Hideki Matsuyama, Ryan Fox, Min Woo Lee, Adam Scott, Si Woo Kim and Tom Kim. His captain’s picks are Sungjae Im, Corey Conners, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Nico Echavarria, Ryo Hisatsune and Nick Taylor.

Fox arrives at Medinah as the reigning Open champion after his birdie on the last at Royal Birkdale in July, his first major title.

Scott is making his 12th Presidents Cup appearance, tying Phil Mickelson for the most by any player. He has yet to be on a winning side in the event.

First tees at 11:35am Thursday

Practice rounds run Tuesday and Wednesday on Medinah’s redesigned Course No. 3, a par-70 layout stretching to 7,548 yards after a rebuild that added three new holes and lifted the bunker count from 70 to 117.

The competition begins on Thursday with five four-ball matches. Round 1 tee times run from 11:35am to 12:47pm local time, with the opening ceremony held 30 minutes before the first tee. Twelve singles matches on Sunday close out the week.
