Russell Westbrook has been out of the NBA for less than two months, and one former All-Star is already telling him to reconsider.

Zach Randolph, the two-time All-Star who spent eight seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, spent part of a recent “Out the Mud” podcast episode arguing that the 37-year-old has plenty left, and naming the Miami Heat as the team that would suit him.

“I’d like to see him with the (Miami) Heat; that’ll be a nice fit,” Randolph said.

“Brodie got a lot left in him. I just saw his little brother yesterday, Ray. I got a chance to highlight him, man. So he got a lot left. He might be back.”

Randolph also told listeners in the same appearance that Westbrook has “another 3-4 years at least” of NBA basketball in him.

Retirement announced on 12 August

Westbrook announced his retirement on 12 August 2026, ending 18 seasons with a career-highlight video narrated by actor Michael B. Jordan.

“Sometimes you don’t even know when you’ve already watched the end. You had to be there. And now it’s over,” the caption read.

The nine-time All-Star and 2017 MVP walks away as the league’s all-time triple-double leader with 209, ahead of Nikola Jokic on 198. He is also fifth on the career assists list and a two-time scoring champion.

His final year came in Sacramento, where he averaged 15.2 points, 6.7 assists and 5.4 rebounds in 64 games.

Miami and Westbrook have not spoken

Randolph’s remarks are a former player’s speculation, not reporting. The Miami Heat have not commented on the podcast, and Westbrook has said nothing publicly to reverse his August decision.
