Michael Olise does not want to come to the Premier League. That is the message out of Munich as Liverpool work through a shortlist for the right flank, with sources close to the France international saying the 24-year-old is settled in Germany and has “no plans to push for a return to England”.

His preference, those sources add, is Spain. Real Madrid is the dream destination, with Barcelona also aware of his situation as he weighs a future in La Liga.

Bayern move to tie him down until 2032

Bayern are not waiting for the storm. Club officials recently met Olise’s agent Glen Tweneboah in Munich, and they intend to open formal talks on a new deal that would run until 2032 and place the winger “among the highest-paid players at the club”.

His current contract runs until 2029, but Bayern want to extend it by three years to ward off Liverpool and Real Madrid before either can turn interest into an offer the Germans cannot ignore.

Bayern are not for selling at any price. The club has signalled it would not necessarily be moved even by bids above €200m, with the stance being that Olise’s performances should not be allowed to attract an offer that becomes impossible to refuse.

The £170m release clause he wants in writing

The sticking point is the exit route. Olise’s representatives are insisting on a release clause in excess of £170m, a figure that would hand him control over where he plays next without forcing a move now.

Bayern have signalled they view a clause in that region as realistic in Olise’s case. The proposed package would see his salary rise to around £21m a year, lifting him into the club’s top earners’ tier alongside Harry Kane.

The point of a clause that size is not that it will be paid, it is that it keeps the door ajar. Real Madrid and Barcelona would both be in a position to meet it; a Premier League buyer would, too, if Olise ever changed his mind.

Liverpool back to the drawing board on the right

Liverpool had Olise mapped out as a long-term successor to Salah on the right wing. The club has been searching for a left-footed winger capable of operating on the opposite flank, and the former Crystal Palace man had moved to the top of their list.

The problem is that his agents are telling every interested English club, Arsenal and Manchester City are the other Premier League names reported to have inquired, that a Premier League return is not currently on his mind.

Olise’s form is making the position harder for suitors, not easier. He registered 22 goals and 31 assists in 57 games across all competitions in 2025/26, and has started the current campaign with eight goals and four assists in his first seven matches, numbers that are strengthening Bayern’s hand at the table.

The next move belongs to Bayern. Talks on the 2032 extension are expected to open in the coming weeks, with the release clause the single item that will decide whether Liverpool and Real Madrid are kept out, or simply put on hold.
