Erling Haaland has personally told Barcelona he is open to a transfer in the summer of 2027, according to multiple Spanish outlets led by Mundo Deportivo and Sport.

The line is a step beyond earlier coverage. Reports in September 2026 described Barcelona’s interest and Haaland’s reported price tag; the new wording is a personal yes.

On 29 September 2026 an independent commission found Manchester City guilty on 114 of 115 Premier League financial charges, covering the seasons from 2009-10 to 2017-18. The ruling described “sham” commercial contracts and schemes that inflated revenues and reduced costs by more than £900m. Sanctions have not yet been handed down, and the club has said it will appeal.

Spanish journalist Juan Jesus reported on X that Haaland’s entourage has for the first time formally approached Barcelona’s board with a projected fee and wage package. The window being discussed is 2027 or 2028, by which point the rebuilt Spotify Camp Nou is scheduled to be back at full capacity.

“I can confirm this to you: for the first time, Erling Haaland’s entourage has taken a step forward regarding Barcelona’s interest,” Juan Jesus wrote.

“The Norwegian’s team has communicated to the blaugrana board an estimated transfer fee and salary demands for a potential future deal.”

Previous reports in the same outlets have put a potential fee at around £130m. No figures have been confirmed by either club.

No relegation clause in Haaland’s deal

Haaland signed a long-term extension in January 2025 that ties him to Manchester City until 2034. Barcelona-based outlet Sport, cited by Football365, says the deal contains no “relegation release clause” and no other automatic exit route tied to the financial case.

Even if Manchester City are docked points, fined or hit with a transfer ban as part of the sanction, the contract does not spring open. Any 2027 move would still have to go through negotiation with the holders of a nine-year deal.

Some legal commentary around the verdict has suggested that players at the club could, in principle, test whether a serious sanction gives them grounds to leave. No such case has been brought, and no player has publicly asked to go.

Barcelona’s 2027 plan around Yamal

On the Catalan side, the project is more defined. Barcelona have, according to Football España’s roundup of Spanish reporting, briefed Lamine Yamal that they intend to build a blockbuster attack around him by 2027, with Haaland and Atlético Madrid’s Julián Alvarez the two names in frame.

Haaland is 26, and 2027 would land him at the peak age of a centre-forward. The pitch from Barcelona, according to the Spanish reporting, is a rebuilt Camp Nou, Yamal in his early twenties, and an unveiling as a galactico in front of a full stadium.

Former Barcelona midfielder Gaizka Mendieta told Casinolyze the fit works on the pitch.

“The way he makes those runs and his power in the box suits the Hansi Flick style quite well,” Mendieta said, cautioning that any such move is “quite far down the line.”

Manchester City’s appeal against the commission’s findings will be followed by the sanction phase.
