Tzolis is the one Arteta ruled out. The winger picked up a muscle problem on international duty and will sit out for a stretch of matches.

“Tzolis has a muscle injury, and he’s going to be out for a few weeks,” the manager told reporters at his pre-match press conference on Friday.

Three weeks since the Brighton defeat

Arsenal have not played a Premier League match since losing 3-0 at Brighton on 19 September, a result that knocked the champions off top spot. The international pause has given the squad room to recover from that night on the south coast, and it has also brought a fresh set of problems back from national-team camps.

Havertz returned early from Germany with what Arteta described as a muscular issue, and Konsa carried a knock back from England duty. Rice, meanwhile, pulled out of the England squad for load management rather than a specific injury.

“We have to manage him because he’s had a few issues since he came back from the World Cup,” Arteta said of Rice. “Hopefully tomorrow he’s available.”

Saliba still weeks away

William Saliba remains the longest-term absentee. The France defender has not played for Arsenal since the World Cup, where he picked up a back problem, and his return is not expected before November.

The traffic is not all one way. Ben White, Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie have all returned to full training in time to be considered, and Max Dowman is also available after reporting back from international duty.

Leeds United arrive at the Emirates without Joe Rodon or Daniel James, with Jean-Matteo Bahoya and Harry Wilson both facing late calls of their own. Kick-off is at 12:30pm local time.
