Erling Haaland has bought a property at Manchester City Yas Residences by Ohana, a Manchester City-branded waterfront community in Abu Dhabi.

The Norway striker revealed the news himself at the launch event.

“Hi everyone, I’m so happy because I’m joining the Manchester City Ohana project. We will be neighbours in Abu Dhabi. I just got a house and so did my father,” he told the audience.

The development is the product of a partnership signed in January 2026 between Ohana Development and Manchester City, billed as the club’s first branded residential project globally. The 1.67 million square metre site on the Yas Canal is set to include a Manchester City training academy and themed lifestyle facilities, with Ohana designing and building the community.

Guilty verdict, then an appeal

On 29 September 2026, an independent commission found Manchester City guilty of all serious charges of breaching Premier League financial rules in the 2009-10 to 2017-18 seasons. The ruling said the club had inflated revenues and reduced costs by more than £900m via “sham” commercial contracts, while making “concerted efforts to stop and frustrate the Premier League” during the investigation.

Manchester City said it was “disappointed and surprised” by the opinion and that “a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions”.

The club lodged a comprehensive appeal on 1 October 2026, arguing the ruling contains “material errors of law, principle and fact”. No punishment has been handed down, with a separate sanctions hearing still pending and the appeal board hearing itself kept private until an outcome is permitted to be published.

No relegation release clause in Haaland’s contract

The verdict has pushed Haaland’s name back into transfer coverage despite a contract that runs until 2034.

Sports Illustrated reports Real Madrid and Barcelona are both tracking the 26-year-old, with the uncertainty around the Premier League case cited as the main driver. A summer 2027 move is the timeframe most frequently floated in transfer coverage.

One contractual detail cuts against the “forced exit” scenario. According to Spanish outlet Sport, cited by TNT Sports, Haaland’s agreement does not include a relegation release clause. Even the harshest sanctions mooted, including points deductions, stripped titles or exclusion from the Premier League, would not automatically free him to leave.

For now, Haaland is tied to Manchester City until 2034 and has just bought a home at a Manchester City-branded project. The next step in the saga is the independent appeal board hearing, the date of which has not been made public.
