A trainer wrapping a bleeding hand is not usually part of a third-round changeover at an ATP 1000. But that was the scene on Sunday in Shanghai, where Alexander Bublik had just put his fist through the top of the drinks cooler next to his chair.
Bublik, the No. 19 seed, had held two set points at 6-4 in the opening tiebreak against No. 16 seed Brandon Nakashima. He failed to convert either, and when the American closed out the set 7-6(7), the Kazakhstani snapped.
He slammed his racket into the court five times until it was destroyed, AOL reported. He then stormed to his bench, kicked it, sat down and brought his fist down on the lid of the cooler beside him. The impact split the skin on his hand.
A three-minute medical timeout
Chair umpire John Blom issued a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct and told the crowd there would be a three-minute medical timeout, according to Brit Brief. The ATP trainer came onto the court and bandaged the wound before play could resume.

Sky Sports commentator Nick Lester watched it unfold on the broadcast.
“He’s going to need to find a way to calm down quickly. That’s not pretty,” Lester said.
Bublik kept muttering from his chair while he was being treated, in comments carried by AOL.
“I cannot play against gods f***ing everywhere,” he said. “It’s like everything is against me.”

Not his first courtside outburst
The 29-year-old has long been one of the ATP’s most volatile and watchable showmen, built on underarm serves, trick shots and the occasional on-court meltdown. This one left him down a set, down a racket, and with his own blood on the court.
Nakashima served first in the second set, and Bublik, hand bandaged, came back out to continue the match on Shanghai’s centre court.
