Pedro Porro signed a new long-term contract at Tottenham in June, with the deal running until 2031 and a club option for a further year. Four months on, the 27-year-old right-back has reached a verdict: he wants to leave.

Spain’s World Cup winner would “jump” at a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona, Football Insider reported this week, and is “flattered” by the interest. He is “keen to play at the highest possible level and compete for honours, something he no longer feels is achievable” at Tottenham, per the Football Insider report carried by Football365.

Porro and De Zerbi have clashed

Behind the shift sits the manager Spurs appointed in March, Roberto De Zerbi.

Spanish journalist Juan Jesus, in reporting carried by Football365, said the Italian’s arrival has “drastically changed [Porro’s] outlook in London, leading to several heated confrontations both in private and publicly in front of the squad”.

He described a “terrible relationship” and said Porro is “actively pushing to return to Spain, whether this very winter or heading into the summer”.

Barcelona is working on a possible signing ahead of the winter window, according to another Spanish journalist, Enric Canyellas, in the same report. Alejandro Balde’s possible exit at Camp Nou is viewed as potentially opening the door for Porro, who would reunite with his Spain teammates under Hansi Flick. Of the two Spanish suitors, Barcelona is seen as the more likely destination because the right-back position is a greater need there than at Real Madrid.

A £75m price tag that few can meet

Wanting out does not mean he will go. Tottenham have set Porro’s asking price at a world-record £75m, TeamTalk reports, a figure that would eclipse the £57m Paris Saint-Germain paid Inter Milan for Achraf Hakimi in 2021.

That valuation makes a January move highly unlikely. Intermediaries quoted in the same report framed the realistic opening as a summer 2027 exit rather than a mid-season sale, with the new contract strengthening Tottenham’s hand without closing the door on a departure.

De Zerbi, who signed a five-year contract on his appointment on 31 March after helping Spurs avoid relegation, is the club’s third head coach in a single calendar year following the departures of Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor. Spurs are winless in their opening Premier League matches of the season and sit near the bottom of the table. Porro arrived at Tottenham in 2023 for a reported £40m.
