The tifo went up moments before kick-off on Tuesday at Parc des Princes: a masked figure in a Paris Saint-Germain shirt, chainsaw raised, slicing the Barcelona crest in two. Fireworks fired through the banner to simulate sparks from the blade. The slogan was “Massacre à la parisienne.”

Within hours, Barcelona’s board had reached a verdict. Club sources told ESPN the imagery was “overly aggressive and offensive,” and briefed Spanish daily Sport that the display amounted to “an unacceptable breach” of the limits of sporting competition.

The club has reported Paris Saint-Germain to UEFA, asking for retrospective action.

‘Puta Barca’ banner joined the chainsaw tifo

A second banner reading “Puta Barca” was also unfurled by home supporters, according to Catalan outlet Esport3. Barcelona want UEFA to examine both displays. The chainsaw figure drew on horror film iconography, with reporting pointing to the Leatherface character from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and a Michael Myers-style Halloween mask.

Doué, Vitinha and Ruiz sink Barcelona 4-2

Désiré Doué put PSG in front in the first half. Xavi Espart equalised early after the break, Lucas Hernández restored the lead for the home side, and Lamine Yamal pulled Barcelona level a second time. Vitinha then struck from outside the area before Fabián Ruiz sealed a 4-2 win in the closing minutes.

The win left Paris Saint-Germain top of the Champions League league-phase standings on nine points from three matches, with Barcelona falling to six after a first defeat of the campaign.

UEFA has previous with PSG tifos

The French club avoided sanctions less than two years ago over a political banner at the same stage of the competition. In November 2024, UEFA closed its file on a pro-Palestine tifo displayed before a league-phase game against Atlético Madrid; a UEFA spokesperson said the banner “cannot be in this case considered provocative or insulting.”

Following that case, PSG introduced in-house vetting of tifos before matchdays.
