Kane did everything a centre-forward is asked to do on the night. He slid the through ball that Alphonso Davies finished on 35 minutes after Eberechi Eze had put Arsenal ahead, buried a penalty on 61 when Jurrien Timber handled a close-range shot in the box, and watched Bayern threaten a third. Declan Rice ran onto a pass from Viktor Gyökeres in the 82nd minute, and the night turned.
“Towards the end of the game we found ourselves in a low block and struggled to get the ball out,” Kane told reporters after the match on 21 October.
Kane felt the opening of the second half should have settled it.
“I thought we had a good performance. Especially the start of the second half, we got the goal and had the chance to kill the game off with another goal.”

“Overall we could’ve been more efficient, but I thought the draw was a fair result. We take the point and move on.”
Kompany reads the night the same way
Vincent Kompany, back on the Bayern bench after a viral infection kept him from training earlier in the week, pointed to the same stretch.
“It’s a pity that we lost our momentum a bit in the last minutes of the game. It was a winnable game, but we shouldn’t forget that Arsenal is a difficult opponent, so it’s never over,” the Bayern head coach told reporters.
Bayern had taken the field without Michael Olise (suspended) and Jamal Musiala (injured), with Luis Díaz on the bench. The creative load fell to Kane and Davies, and for an hour it was enough. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, meanwhile, lost Bukayo Saka to injury inside the first 10 minutes, brought on Eze, and watched him put them in front.

10 straight Champions League matches with a goal
The penalty was Kane’s 16th career goal against Arsenal, a tally only his 20 against Leicester City exceeds among opponents he has faced. It extended his run of scoring in consecutive Champions League appearances to 10, bettered only by Cristiano Ronaldo’s 11 between June 2017 and April 2018. It was also his ninth Champions League match with a goal and an assist, two more than any other English player has managed.
The point left Bayern on five from three in the league phase, with Arsenal on seven. Arsenal’s 14-match winning run in the Champions League league phase ended. Only once before had they scored first in a European Cup or Champions League tie, fallen behind, and still avoided defeat: a 2-2 draw with the same opponent in April 2024.
