Antonio Nusa’s price keeps climbing, and the Premier League queue behind him keeps growing. Football Insider reports that Aston Villa have made clear to Newcastle they must accelerate any move for the 21-year-old Norway international, though the body of that piece leans more on Newcastle’s history of missed targets than on fresh direct communication between the two clubs.

What is clearer is the shape of the field. Arsenal and Villa are the front-runners ahead of Newcastle, with Liverpool also credited with interest. The decisive factor cited in that reporting is Champions League football. Villa reached this season’s competition by winning the Europa League in May. Newcastle did not qualify for Europe’s top table at all.

Leipzig’s £60m valuation

Leipzig signed Nusa from Club Brugge in 2024 for roughly £18m. The current estimated asking fee sits at £50m to £60m, according to CaughtOffside, with his contract running to 2029. Former scout Bryan King told the outlet the number is only moving one way.

“He’s going to cost a lot more money than he went to Leipzig for. That’s for sure.”

The form is doing the work for Leipzig’s negotiators. Nusa scored and assisted in the 6-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on 10 October, part of a return of four goals and three assists from his first eight outings in all competitions. He also started both of Norway’s October World Cup qualifiers.

Garnacho’s £43m loan is stalling

Unai Emery’s interest overlaps with a specific hole on the left. Alejandro Garnacho’s loan from Chelsea has not worked. The 22-year-old has made five substitute appearances for a total of 60 minutes, has never started, and was left out of the squad entirely for Saturday’s 2-1 win over Manchester City. Villa have reportedly decided to restrict his minutes to avoid triggering the £43m appearance-based obligation that would make the loan permanent.

A left-sided winger who can carry the ball through pressure and finish off either foot, Nusa’s profile maps directly onto that vacancy. Arsenal’s rationale is similar: Christos Tzolis is the only specialist left-winger in Mikel Arteta’s squad after the summer window.

Newcastle’s pitch without Europe’s top table

Newcastle have tracked Nusa for months. Sports Mole reported in July that Villa and the Magpies were monitoring developments. That monitoring has not become a bid, and without a Champions League league-phase schedule to sell, Newcastle’s offer now runs through wages, project and guaranteed starts rather than European prestige.

The January transfer window opens on 1 January 2027. No formal bid has been reported from any of the Premier League suitors, and Leipzig’s negotiating position, with four years of contract and no public willingness to sell mid-season, keeps the next move on the Bundesliga club’s side of the table.
