Hansi Flick has not been put on warning at Barcelona. He has been publicly embraced.

A week on from a 4-2 Champions League loss at Paris Saint-Germain, and barely 48 hours after Real Madrid’s 2-1 Clásico victory in Catalonia, the German was given a vote of confidence from the top of the club. Speaking at the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony at the London Palladium, president Joan Laporta refused to join the pile-on.

“It was a tough blow, but the players are young and they bounce back quickly,” Laporta said, as reported by Barca Universal via Yahoo Sports.

“We’re still top of La Liga and our expectations remain intact. And Flick is the ideal manager for Barça.”

A boardroom message, not a warning

Behind the scenes, the tone was the same. According to Barca Universal, citing journalist Achraf Ben Ayad, the Barcelona board expressed complete confidence in both the coaching staff and the squad at its latest meeting, framing the back-to-back defeats as a stumble rather than evidence of a broken project.

Sunday’s defeat cut Barcelona’s lead at the top of La Liga to just three points, Barca Universal added. The opening run of nine consecutive league wins was ended by Real Madrid at Camp Nou on 25 October, a week after the 4-2 Champions League defeat in Paris. Barcelona have still won 11 of their first 13 matches in all competitions.

A barbecue, not a crisis meeting

The dressing room moved first. On Wednesday, captain Raphinha and Rodri helped organise a team bonding barbecue at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper that lasted roughly 90 minutes, with Flick and his technical staff present alongside the first-team squad. The brief, according to Goal, was blunt: own what had gone wrong, do it together, keep it in-house.

The head coach has not blinked on the pitch either. According to Barca Universal, citing Catalunya Radio, Flick and his staff believe the answer lies in refining the existing system rather than tearing it up, and remain opposed to sweeping tactical changes. The defensive injury list is being treated internally as a bigger factor than tactical failure.
