Chelsea’s winter focus has shifted to a £100m move for Alex Scott, and Liverpool have moved to reopen contact with the camp of Lamine Camara over a January deal for the Monaco midfielder.

The approach was first reported by the Daily Mirror and picked up by Sky Sports on 28 October, with Monaco holding firm on a valuation of roughly €55m.

Camara is familiar territory for the London club. Chelsea thought they had him on deadline day in the summer window, with FootballTransfers reporting that terms were agreed before Monaco withdrew at the last minute. The Blues have since turned to Bournemouth’s England international Alex Scott, whom the Cherries value at £100m and who is reportedly keen on the move.

Camara’s rise at Monaco

The 22-year-old has started 10 of Monaco’s 12 fixtures this season, contributing two goals and one assist for a side currently fourth in Ligue 1.

Monaco head coach Filipe Luís has become his loudest advocate.

“In twenty years’ time, we may well see plenty of players like him. He can run a marathon, play for ninety minutes without ever letting up, whilst playing football,” Filipe Luís told L’Équipe, in comments reported by Get French Football News.

Monaco would prefer to keep him until next summer, when a run at Champions League qualification could push the asking price higher. According to FootballTransfers, however, a mid-season sale cannot be ruled out if the right offer arrives.

Iraola’s midfield rebuild

For Andoni Iraola, appointed Liverpool head coach ahead of the 2026-27 season as Arne Slot’s successor, Camara is one strand of a broader midfield reset.

Caught Offside has also linked Liverpool with Roma’s Manu Koné and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, while retaining a watching brief on Scott with less urgency than Chelsea.

The January window opens on 1 January 2027, giving Liverpool just over two months to work out whether Monaco can be persuaded to sell early.
