Glasner took the blame and set out a stark condition on his own future.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Forest’s 2-0 defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium, the Austrian said he would not keep coaching the way he had been. If the players refuse to come with him, he told reporters, Forest will be hiring a sixth head coach.

“I decided everything. It’s just one person to blame, and that’s me.”

Glasner is the fifth manager Forest have appointed since the start of last season. He has one Premier League win from his opening nine matches in charge.

‘Slow’ and ‘same mistakes’

Sky Sports billed his post-match comments as a rant about Forest being “slow” and “making the same mistakes”, and the match itself bore that out. Forest had 14 shots and hit the target just once. Nikola Milenković’s own goal gave Brentford the lead on 30 minutes, and Igor Thiago made it 2-0 on 76. The travelling fans booed the team off at full-time.

Forest sit in the Premier League relegation zone, the division’s lowest scorers with six goals this season. They have failed to score in four of their last seven matches, according to beIN Sports.

‘I will change things’

Pressed on what had to change, Glasner answered “everywhere” and conceded he had made too many compromises since taking the job.

Then came the line that defined the press conference.

“I can’t and I won’t continue in the same way as Oliver Glasner. I will change things.”

On the opposite touchline, Brentford head coach Keith Andrews told Sky Sports it was his side’s best win of the season, praising the smart play and leadership his players had shown in a performance that required different traits to other games this term.
