West Ham United confirmed on Tuesday that Nuno Espirito Santo had left his position “with immediate effect”, ending his spell at the London Stadium after just over thirteen months in charge.

Nuno’s final match was Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion, during which sections of the home crowd sang that the head coach would be “sacked in the morning”. That followed a 3-2 home loss to Southampton the week before. The Hammers have taken six wins from thirteen Championship matches to sit eighth in the table, six points behind leaders Middlesbrough and four below the automatic promotion places.

In a statement, the club board said a change was “necessary at this time in order to ensure that the Club’s objectives and expectations remain on track.” Assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa left alongside the Portuguese.

Parker close to London Stadium return

The Hammers have moved fast. According to Sports Mole and other reports, West Ham have reached an agreement with Scott Parker, with the 46-year-old expected to be in the dugout for Wednesday’s trip to Cardiff City if the deal can be completed in time.

Parker won the club’s player of the year award three times during his playing days at Upton Park and has since taken Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley up from the Championship. He has been out of work since leaving Burnley in April 2026.

Parker set to become second since Potter

If Parker is not installed by kick-off, club legend Mark Noble will prepare the team alongside Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville. Kick-off at Cardiff City Stadium is at 7:45pm local time, live on Sky Sports.

Nuno was appointed in September 2025 as Graham Potter’s successor and then oversaw West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season. If Parker’s appointment is confirmed, he will be the club’s second permanent head coach inside fourteen months.
