Germany sit third in Nations League Group A2 behind the Netherlands and Greece with two matches left to play, and Jürgen Klopp’s selection for the double-header spells out which players he now trusts to get his team back into contention.

The headline recall is Niclas Füllkrug. The 33-year-old Werder Bremen striker leads the Bundesliga scoring charts with nine goals in eight matches, a run Klopp said made the call-up unavoidable. The German head coach told reporters it was “a pretty easy nomination to make and it was a pleasure to let him know he was in”, crediting Füllkrug with “an unbelievable influence on Werder Bremen, not only through his goals but the way in which he has played”.

A maiden call at 17

Borussia Mönchengladbach attacking midfielder Wael Mohya, who turned 17 earlier this year, receives his first senior invitation after four Bundesliga goals in 23 appearances. He arrives with two Germany Under-21 caps on his record.

“There aren’t many 17-year-olds currently playing in the Bundesliga,” Klopp said of the teenager. “That alone is already an outstanding achievement.”

From 44 names down to 24

Klopp has tightened his working group aggressively from the 44-player roster he used across the September and October windows. He said the cut was “difficult to make” but framed the strength in depth as a positive.

“The more quality you have at your disposal, the more challenging, in a good way, it is to make the decisions you have to make,” Klopp told AFP.

Ter Stegen keeps the number one shirt

Marc-André ter Stegen, who moved to Ajax in the summer, holds off Alexander Nübel and Jonas Urbig for the gloves. Klopp confirmed the pecking order ahead of the window.

“Marc is having a fantastic season in Amsterdam, and fortunately, the other two are also having really good seasons,” Klopp said. “We’re going into these matches with Marc as our number one.”

Senior names left out

RB Leipzig captain David Raum, Nick Woltemade and Karim Adeyemi are the most prominent omissions from a squad that leans heavily on players in current Bundesliga form. Bayern Munich forwards Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry remain unavailable through injury.

Germany play Serbia away in Belgrade on Friday 13 November at 8:45pm local time, then host the Netherlands at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on Monday 16 November at 8:45pm local time.
