Haaland comes for Carragher over Salah remarks in live CBS interview
Micah Richards set the tone by greeting Haaland with an exaggerated sing-song introduction something between a celebration and a dare. The studio was already laughing when Haaland, barely settled into his seat, lobbed a playful jab toward Jamie Carragher.
It referenced recent back-and-forth commentary involving Mohamed Salah and Liverpool, a topic Carragher has been vocal about.
“Oof I'm getting nervous now when I see Jamie Carragher in the studio,” Haaland said, which triggered another wave of laughter. Carragher brushed it off “You don't have to be nervous, Erling!” but Richards wasn’t finished stirring the pot.
When he asked whether Haaland would rather face Antonio Rudiger or Carragher, Haaland didn’t hesitate: “I mean, I think I need to say Rudiger now because Carragher is a bit of a loose cannon!”

CBS later posted the exchange on social media, where clips circulated quickly through football circles.
Match context: City settle a tricky night in Spain
According to CBS Sports’ broadcast commentary, Real Madrid took the early initiative through Rodrygo, who finally broke a months-long dry spell with his finish. City responded with a composed strike from teenager Nico O’Reilly, and the match swung again when Antonio Rudiger brought down Haaland inside the box.
Haaland converted the penalty with typical calmness his 55th Champions League goal.
The victory lifted City into fourth place in their group. It also continued a stretch of strong form for Haaland, whose scoring rate has been one of the few constants in a campaign marked by injuries elsewhere in the squad.

Carragher extends an invitation Haaland adds a twist
Before the interview ended, Carragher took the opportunity to pitch Haaland on a guest appearance for Stick to Football, the show he hosts with Gary Neville and Roy Keane. Haaland paused, cracked a grin, and referenced the long-remembered feud between Keane and his father, Alf-Inge Haaland.
“I think I need to bring my father,” he said. The studio loved it, and Carragher accepted without blinking: “It’s a deal!”
What comes next
CBS Sports noted that Haaland is now one goal away from Ruud van Nistelrooy’s total of 56 in the Champions League, which would place him joint-eighth on the all-time list.
Subbed off after 70 minutes in Madrid, he is expected to feature again when City travel to Crystal Palace this weekend another chance to add to a season in which he has already reached 21 goals.
