Every position on the football pitch is important, but one of the most crucial is the central midfielder. This is where we often find the general or the leader, but it is also a highly versatile role. Some midfielders are visionary passers, others are skillful dribblers, and some are pure enforcers whose primary task is to dominate physically.

Here, we have done our best to rank the 30 greatest central midfielders of all time, from 'least great' to the very best. Is there anyone who's missing or should've been left out?
