Alex Iwobi jokes about Mainoo injury after Fulham’s late defeat at Old Trafford
A light-hearted exchange between Alex Iwobi and Kobbie Mainoo became an unexpected talking point after Fulham’s dramatic late defeat to Manchester United, offering a brief moment of humour amid frustration for the London side.
In a video shared on his personal YouTube channel, Iwobi joked that the United midfielder had left him nursing a hand injury during Sunday’s Premier League clash. The comment, delivered with a smile, quickly gained traction among supporters online.
The Fulham midfielder held his hand up to the camera, showing two fingers taped together, before addressing Mainoo directly. “Shout-out to Kobbie Mainoo,” Iwobi said. “But Kobbie, you finished my hand. You absolutely finished my hand.” He then added, laughing, “This guy’s got Ghanaian strength.”
A clip of the moment was later shared on X by user @ZaidBalll, who captioned the video:
“Kobbie man.. you absolutely finished my hand. This guy has Ghanaian strength!”
The post was widely circulated, with fans largely interpreting the exchange as friendly banter rather than criticism.

Late drama decides contest
The joking tone contrasted sharply with the way the match itself ended. Fulham had appeared to rescue a point after trailing 2-0, with Brazil winger Kevin scoring deep into second-half stoppage time to level the match.
However, Manchester United snatched victory in the 98th minute when Benjamin Sesko turned inside the penalty area and fired home from close range, sealing a 3-2 win at Old Trafford.
According to Sportbible, the result marked a third consecutive victory for Michael Carrick since taking charge as interim United manager, lifting the club into fourth place in the Premier League on 41 points.
Fulham left frustrated
Fulham, who remain ninth with 34 points from 24 matches, were left feeling aggrieved by the manner of the defeat. In his vlog, Iwobi reflected on the performance and questioned some of the officiating decisions during the game.

“It was a good game, we’d done well to get back into it,” he said. “Before that, VAR had done us dirty.”
Despite the disappointment, the Nigeria international praised Fulham’s response and highlighted the contributions of his teammates, including Kevin’s late equaliser and Raul Jimenez’s reliability from the penalty spot earlier in the match.
While the result went against them, Iwobi’s post-match humour underlined the camaraderie that often exists between players even after a painful late loss.
