Barcelona weigh major sale amid transfer interest
Barcelona’s summer transfer plans are beginning to take shape, and at least one senior defender may no longer be considered untouchable as interest from abroad intensifies.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Jules Koundé has emerged as a potential sale candidate as the club balances squad stability against ongoing financial strain. The France international remains a regular presence in the team, but his long-term status is no longer guaranteed.
Financial realities drive reassessment
Barcelona’s economic situation continues to influence sporting decisions, particularly when it comes to players with significant market value. Koundé, who is under contract until 2030, fits that profile.
Fichajes reports that club officials see the 27-year-old as an asset whose departure could generate substantial funds, easing budget constraints ahead of the next transfer window. While no final decision has been taken, the defender is now among several players being closely evaluated.

On-field concerns and shifting perceptions
Despite making 34 appearances across all competitions this season, Koundé has faced scrutiny over his recent performances. The report notes growing doubts around his consistency and leadership, factors that have altered how indispensable he is viewed internally.
Those concerns come during a campaign in which Barcelona have impressed going forward under Hansi Flick, scoring 60 league goals to sit narrowly top of La Liga. However, defensive reliability has been less convincing, with the team conceding more than a goal per game — a contrast that has sharpened focus on the back line.
Strong market interest from England and Germany
Koundé’s versatility remains a major attraction for potential buyers. Fichajes values him at approximately £56 million, though that figure could rise significantly if multiple clubs enter the race.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool are all said to be monitoring the situation, drawn by his ability to operate both centrally and at full-back. Bayern Munich are also keeping a close watch, with the Bundesliga side reportedly admiring his experience and physical durability.

A competitive bidding environment could push Barcelona’s asking price closer to £70 million, or even higher if negotiations escalate.
Summer decision looms
Fichajes described the coming months as decisive for both club and player.
“No decision has been made, but the situation has clearly changed. Koundé is no longer untouchable, and the club is willing to listen to offers. Everything will depend on how the season ends and whether the player manages to change the current perception with convincing performances.”

“Summer presents itself as a turning point. If an offer close to €80 million arrives, Barcelona will have to seriously consider whether to prioritise keeping a defender who has raised doubts or seize the opportunity to cash in and redefine their project.”
As Barcelona weigh sporting ambitions against financial necessity, Koundé’s future is shaping up to be one of the defining storylines of the upcoming transfer window.
