Fraud charges rock former world champion boxer Agnieszka R.
Polish authorities have brought formal charges against Agnieszka R., once a celebrated figure in the country’s combat sports scene. The case, now before the District Court in Warsaw Śródmieście, centers on allegations that she repeatedly borrowed relatively small sums and did not return them.
According to o2.pl journalist Karol Osiński, the indictment was submitted in late January and names 14 alleged victims. Prosecutors claim the combined financial losses amount to 102,350 Polish złoty. The charges reportedly describe a recurring pattern of short term loans that were never repaid.
Agnieszka R. rose to prominence in the 1990s and early 2000s, winning medals at European and World Championships in kickboxing and later claiming a professional world boxing title. In recent years, however, public attention shifted from her athletic achievements to her health struggles.
Fundraising campaign and public support
Earlier in 2025, a fundraising campaign was launched to help cover Agnieszka R.’s medical treatment. According to przewodnikzdrowie.pl, the campaign, hosted on the platform Zrzutka.pl, collected close to PLN 500,000. The fundraiser was intended to support treatment for spinal problems, depression following the death of her partner, and other serious conditions.

The initiative was organized by Bartosz Oleszczuk of the association Obudź w Sobie Potencjał. When contacted by o2.pl, Oleszczuk said he had not provided significant personal financial assistance beyond modest contributions in previous years. He declined to comment further on the ongoing legal case.
City hall distances itself from allegations
Agnieszka R., who was born and raised in Kołobrzeg, had previously received support from members of the local community during her health crisis. According to o2.pl, she was in contact with Anna Mieczkowska, the Mayor of Kołobrzeg, during that period.
Michał Kujaczyński, spokesperson for the Mayor, told o2.pl that while Agnieszka R. had received some form of support, the city administration was not involved in organizing the fundraiser. He also stated that the Mayor would not review her private account to determine how much she may have personally donated. Kujaczyński emphasized that the municipality has no connection to the criminal allegations now before the court.
Legal dispute extends beyond alleged loans
The controversy has also drawn comment from Anna Szydłowska, a lawyer who previously provided legal services to Agnieszka R. Speaking publicly, Szydłowska described her experience as a bitter episode, claiming she was not reimbursed for legal expenses related to her work. She added that, in her view, a fair resolution would involve full repayment of outstanding debts with interest.

The court in Warsaw Śródmieście will now examine the evidence and determine whether the alleged pattern of borrowing without repayment constitutes criminal fraud under Polish law.
