Real Madrid plan major clearout with six first-team players up for sale
Real Madrid could be heading for a significant squad overhaul this summer, with multiple reports indicating that several first-team players may be made available as part of a reset under new head coach Alvaro Arbeloa.
The planned changes appear to focus heavily on the defensive unit, where injuries, age, and contract situations have created uncertainty across several positions.
Defence set for overhaul
Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that Ferland Mendy is among those who could depart after suffering another muscle injury during Madrid’s 3-0 win over Manchester City in the Champions League round of 16.
German publication BILD also suggests that David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger, Dani Carvajal and Fran Garcia are all being considered as potential departures, pointing to a broader rethink of the back line.

Carvajal is approaching the final stretch of his current deal, while Alaba has struggled to regain consistency following his return from a long-term ACL injury in August 2025. Rudiger, meanwhile, has remained an important option when fit but has seen his season disrupted by recurring injury problems.
Garcia’s situation also reflects the shifting depth chart at left-back, where he now finds himself behind both Mendy and Alvaro Carreras.
Camavinga among uncertain futures
Beyond the defence, questions are also being raised in midfield. Eduardo Camavinga is not considered untouchable, according to Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto, who reports the French international could be available for around £50 million.
The 23-year-old was previously linked with Arsenal during the January 2025 transfer window, although those rumours were dismissed at the time by his representatives. More recently, Football Insider has reported that several Premier League clubs — including Liverpool — are monitoring his situation.

Attention turns to potential arrivals
As Madrid weigh possible departures, the club has also been linked with high-profile reinforcements.
Among them is Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, with reports suggesting the Manchester City midfielder has no plans to extend his contract beyond 2027 — a situation that could present an opportunity in the coming windows.
With a new manager in place and multiple positions under review, the upcoming transfer window is shaping up to be a pivotal one for Real Madrid’s next phase.
