Celtic consider Andy Robertson return as Tottenham stay firmly in the picture

Celtic enter the conversation around Robertson

According to Matt Smith’s report for GiveMeSport, which references reporting from TEAMtalk, Celtic are among the clubs interested in signing Andy Robertson ahead of the summer window. With the Liverpool left back nearing the end of his contract situation, the idea of a move has quickly gathered attention, especially given his status as one of Scotland’s most accomplished modern players.

From Celtic’s point of view, the appeal is obvious. Robertson would bring elite experience, leadership, and immediate stature to the squad. A move to Parkhead would also carry emotional weight because it would feel like the kind of homecoming story supporters naturally connect with. That alone, however, does not mean it will be easy to complete.

Tottenham still appear to be in front

The same GiveMeSport report by Matt Smith says Tottenham have made serious progress, while the underlying reporting from TEAMtalk suggests Spurs have already moved ahead on personal terms. Even if nothing is fully signed, that matters. It means Celtic are not looking at a free run, they are looking at a deal where another club may already have laid important groundwork.

That changes the shape of the story. Rather than this being a simple case of Robertson choosing between sentiment and staying put, it increasingly looks like a decision between very different final chapters. Celtic can offer identity, familiarity, and the pull of a return to Scotland. Tottenham can offer the Premier League, stronger financial muscle, and the chance to remain in the same competitive environment.

Why the move is not as simple as it sounds

There is also a practical side to this that Celtic would have to think through carefully. Robertson would almost certainly arrive on a salary that reflects his standing in the game, and that is a major commitment for any Scottish club. Even if the fee is not an obstacle, the total package still has to make sense.

There is also the question of how he would fit. Celtic already have Kieran Tierney as an experienced option on the left side, so bringing Robertson in would create a real tactical and financial discussion. Unless the club sees one of them being used in a different role, it is fair to ask whether the signing would solve a pressing need or simply create a high profile selection dilemma.

Parkhead appeal could still matter later in the window

Even with those complications, opportunities like this do not come around often. Robertson is not just another experienced player nearing a move, he is one of the most recognizable Scottish footballers of his generation, and that gives the situation a different kind of weight. If Tottenham’s current momentum slows or the wider terms of the move become less convincing, Celtic may still feel there is room to step in late and make their case.

For now, though, the most realistic reading is that Celtic are interested, Tottenham are advanced, and Robertson’s future is still open enough to keep the story alive. The attraction of a return to Scotland is real, but whether that becomes a serious transfer rather than an appealing idea will depend on how the next phase of talks develops.
