Lennart Karl is 18, under contract at Bayern Munich until 2029, and barely on the pitch.

The right winger has started just two of Bayern’s six Bundesliga games this season and has made ten appearances in all competitions, scoring once and setting up one more. That is the backdrop for the latest round of English and German coverage placing five of Europe’s biggest clubs on his trail.

The reporting traces back to TEAMtalk, which named Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool among the Premier League sides alerted to Karl’s situation. Real Madrid and Barcelona are also said to be watching, with the TEAMtalk report putting Karl’s valuation at around £50m.

Hoeness: ‘The comparisons are not doing him any good’

Karl has emerged at Bayern as a teenage attacker with a cut-inside right-wing game. In the current rotation he sits behind Michael Olise on the right flank, and that is where the strain shows.

Honorary president Uli Hoeness publicly cooled the hype, in comments reported in The Hard Tackle’s coverage of the Karl story.

“Young players need to have humility. The comparisons with Michael Olise are clearly not doing him any good.”

TEAMtalk’s report, which fed the English coverage, also claimed that intermediaries are already quietly sounding out potential destinations for Karl, and that there is some disquiet at Bayern over his conduct away from the pitch.

Karl’s future tied to Olise’s decision

Reporting from inside the Allianz Arena suggests the two players’ paths are directly linked. According to Bayern-focused outlet CF Bayern Insider, if Olise signs a new contract Karl would face such steep competition for minutes that a move elsewhere becomes the obvious route, while if Olise leaves, Bayern are expected to lift Karl’s annual salary from around €2m into the €8-10m range to keep him at the club.

“These two players’ futures are very much connected,” the outlet reported. “Everyone is waiting to see what is happening with Michael Olise.”

That framing matches the picture TEAMtalk painted: a teenager who extended his contract to 2029 and who now has to work out whether his pathway is at Bayern or somewhere offering him 90 minutes a week.

Why the Premier League is watching

For Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, Karl’s profile reads as a classic project signing: 18 years old, long contract, Bundesliga-tested, and able to play off either flank or behind a striker. The reporting is clear, though, that nothing has moved beyond monitoring, and no formal approach has been reported from any of the clubs linked to him.

For now Karl remains a Bayern player, contracted to 2029, with a reported valuation around £50m and no transfer talks reported as open with any of the five clubs linked to him.
