Alexis Mac Allister scored twice in Liverpool’s 4-3 Champions League comeback against Villarreal on 20 October. Eight days later, his representatives are being linked with three different leagues at once.

The 27-year-old Argentine’s camp is testing La Liga, Serie A and the Saudi Pro League, according to Football365’s reporting on a Sky Sports Switzerland item, with interest from Spain and Italy described as the most concrete of the three. The approach follows Liverpool’s position that they have no plans to open fresh talks before his current deal expires in 2028.

Ben Jacobs, speaking on the Market Madness podcast and quoted in FootballTransfers on 24 October, put it bluntly: “the aim is, as of now anyway, not to offer him a new deal”. FootballTransfers’ Tom Weber described the Argentine as “probably Liverpool’s best and most consistent player” this season under head coach Andoni Iraola, who took charge at Anfield in June.

‘Very, very sad’, he told Sky Sports in September

Mac Allister’s own frustration has been on record since early September, when he spoke to Sky Sports ahead of the Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid.

“As everyone knows, I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which makes me very, very sad,” he told Sky Sports.

He said at the time that there had been “options to leave this summer” but that Liverpool remained the right club for him. The news had not come to him directly, he added, but through his agent, Carlos Mac Allister, the former Argentina defender who is also his father.

Watching teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch renew long-term deals had, in his words, made it harder.

A 2027 midfield rebuild lining up

According to FootballTransfers, Liverpool are planning to invest in at least one new midfielder next summer, with Monaco’s Lamine Camara, Roma’s Manu Kone and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott on the shortlist. Monaco are said to value Camara at around €70m.

The timing points to a summer 2027 sale, when Mac Allister would be entering the final 12 months of his current contract and his resale value would still be high. Allowing him to run down the deal would weaken Liverpool’s negotiating position considerably.

Real Madrid watching, no approach yet

Real Madrid are tracking the situation. A Sky Germany report names Mac Allister as a priority target for head coach José Mourinho, who was appointed on a three-year contract at the Bernabéu in June and is planning a midfield reshape of his own. The report lists physical strength, intensity in duels and his ability to bring control to midfield as the qualities that attract Mourinho.

Carlos Mac Allister has publicly said no formal approach has arrived from Madrid, and that Liverpool have not contacted the family about a renewal either.

Liverpool are back in Premier League action this weekend, with Mac Allister expected to start.
