Arsenal have reportedly begun their ambitious summer transfer window by securing a deal for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes. The Gunners are understood to have agreed a £75 million fee for the midfielder, who is expected to undergo a medical later this week before signing a long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium until 2031.

With the Guimaraes acquisition seemingly wrapped up, Arsenal’s attention is now expected to pivot towards one of Europe’s most coveted forwards, Vinicius Junior. The 26-year-old Real Madrid star has been strongly linked with a move away from the Spanish capital this summer, primarily due to an ongoing impasse over a new contract.

Vinicius Junior’s contract dilemma

Vinicius Junior’s current deal with Real Madrid is set to expire next summer, and negotiations for an extension have reportedly stalled over several key demands from the player’s representatives. Prior to a recent meeting, Real Madrid had been unwilling to meet the forward’s financial expectations, raising speculation about his future.

However, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Real Madrid has now made an improved contract offer to Vinicius Junior. Talks between the player’s representatives, Real Madrid’s general director Jose Angel Sanchez, and chief scout Juni Calafat took place on Wednesday, with the club reportedly raising their offer to a level they believe reflects the player’s importance to the team. Despite this, a new contract has not yet been agreed.

With the transfer window closing on September 1, Real Madrid is understood to be prepared to sell Vinicius Junior if he does not agree to new terms soon. Should he depart the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, Arsenal is considered his most likely destination.

Barcola emerges as alternative target

Should Vinicius Junior ultimately decide against a move to the Emirates, Arsenal are reportedly prepared to explore an alternative high-profile target: Bradley Barcola. The Paris Saint-Germain forward, described as a “France World Cup star,” has also been the subject of intense transfer speculation.

Barcola has reportedly turned down multiple contract offers from PSG in recent months. While Arsenal are keen, talkSPORT reports that Liverpool are already in negotiations with PSG for the player, who is believed to be more likely to join the Merseyside club if he leaves the French champions this summer. PSG’s asking price for Barcola is understood to be around £140 million, highlighting the significant investment required for either of Arsenal’s primary attacking targets.
