Bayern Munich has expressed its condolences following the tragic passing of 18-year-old Chinese footballer Guo Jiaxuan, who died after suffering a severe head injury during a training match in Spain.

A Rising Talent in Global Football

Guo, a promising defender, was a former member of Bayern’s World Squad—an initiative designed to develop young international footballers. He had also played for China’s Under-17 national team, marking him as one of the country’s emerging talents.

His fatal injury occurred in February during a match against Spanish club RC Alcobendas, organized by the Beijing Football Association. Reports indicate that Guo was struck in the head by an opponent’s knee, leading to a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a rare type of stroke caused by bleeding on the brain’s surface.

Medical Battle and Heartbreaking Outcome

Following the incident, doctors in Madrid diagnosed him with “brain death,” according to his brother. Despite medical efforts, Guo ultimately succumbed to his injuries. His last club, Beijing Guoan, announced his passing, saying they had “lost a child who loved football” and expressed their commitment to supporting his family during this difficult time.

Bayern Munich’s Tribute

Bayern Munich, where Guo once trained as part of the World Squad program, issued a statement mourning his loss. The club confirmed that he had died in his native China from the effects of his injury and sent condolences to his family and friends. Bayern also highlighted his potential, noting that he had been part of their international youth development project and had represented China at the national youth level.
