Champions League Power Rankings After Matchday 1 – Who Looks Like Europe’s Best?

The UEFA Champions League is back — and it didn’t disappoint. Matchday 1 delivered drama across the continent, from last-minute winners at Anfield to dominant performances in Paris and Barcelona. Some teams already look like serious contenders for the trophy, while others have plenty of work to do if they are to make it out of the league phase. These rankings take into account not only the results but also performances, squad depth, injuries, and upcoming fixtures. After just one round, we already have some fascinating storylines developing that could define this European campaign. Here’s how the top 10 teams in the competition shape up right now.

Tottenham managed to edge past Villarreal despite a rather lacklustre attacking display. Thomas Frank’s team is looking far more organized than they were last season, and their upcoming fixtures are relatively favourable. If their new signings settle quickly, Spurs could find themselves comfortably into the round of 16.

9. Chelsea

Chelsea were outclassed in their 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich despite having moments of good play. Their defence still looks shaky and they rely too heavily on Cole Palmer for inspiration. The clash with Barcelona later in the group stage will show if Enzo Maresca’s men are truly progressing.

8. Inter

Christian Chivu got a much-needed win as Inter beat Ajax 2-0 away from home. Marcus Thuram was a major threat in the air, especially with Hakan Çalhanoğlu delivering from set pieces. The team rediscovered some of their defensive solidity, but a quiet transfer window means depth could become an issue.

Bayern Munich produced a strong 3-1 win over Chelsea that confirmed their class. Harry Kane and Michael Olise were the standout performers, showing just how dangerous Vincent Kompany’s team can be. They may be slightly lacking in depth, but their first-choice XI looks like one of Europe’s strongest.

5. Real Madrid

Real Madrid battled to a 2-1 win over Marseille despite going down to ten men after Dani Carvajal’s red card. Kylian Mbappé scored twice from the spot, including one controversial penalty, to seal the win. Xabi Alonso’s side is still developing, but their trademark resilience is already on display.

4. Arsenal

Arsenal cruised to a 2-0 victory against Athletic Club thanks to second-half goals from substitutes Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard. Mikel Arteta’s men handled the absence of key players like Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard with ease. With such depth, they look set to progress comfortably.
